The world is full of interesting contemporary art hot spots. Since not everyone has the possibility to go and visit all of those places, we have decided to select and bring some to you. The Art Expeditions on Independent Collectors will take us to one city at a time, where we will join local collectors and artists on a small tour through their environment. What are the places that inspire them most? Which galleries would they recommend to visit? And: Are there any hidden spots that are not normally featured in city guides? With the Art Expedition series, you will have the chance to experience global art sites from a very personal and eclectic perspective.

In June 2009, collector Albrecht Kastein and artist Jonathan Monk took us on a tour to visit some of their favorite art locations in Berlin. Together with our camera team, we joined the two protagonists on a cruise from the city’s East to West End, whilst they exchanged their thoughts in some of the most interesting art venues on the way. Enjoy the first Art Expedition, a distilled version of a six hour-long tour through the German capital.
