Created in 1999, Artparis represents the second most important fair for modern and contemporary art in France after Fiac Paris. The two fairs share the same location, the spectacular Gran Palais, but Artparis is more concentrated on the local art scene, with more than two-thirds of the galleries coming from France and a strong focus on Paris. In 2009 the fair has changed its name to Artparis+Guests. The aim is to propose a brand-new concept that is linked to the current economic environment: galleries from Paris are asked to invite international guests, not only galleries, but also institutions, designers, authors, musicians, etc. in order to present not only artworks with prices, but also the context and the Parisian art scene. The concept has been developed to make participation costs more affordable and give the galleries the possibility of working with their own sponsors.
