In fact, the venue alone might be worth a visit: SP Arte, the São Paulo International Art Fair, takes place in the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion, better known as the Biennial pavilion, located in Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo. Built in 1957 and designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the building is made of reinforced concrete, steel and glass and is considered a cosmopolitan icon of modern architecture. São Paulo is the most important economic, business and financial center of Latin America, with a diversified cultural life, important museums and other cultural centers. The fair showcases approximately 80 galleries selected among the leading art galleries from Brazil and international countries, such as Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Portugal, Germany and France. Founded in 2005, SP Arte has established itself on the national and international calendar as one of the most eagerly-awaited events in Latin America. Just like any good and up-to-date art fair nowadays, SP Arte also has an ambitious supporting programme dealing with art theoretical matters.
